  • [H3] Sound is made up of frequencies. We mainly associate sound with a perception of our hearing. However, sound also has a visual level. Thus, this photo exhibition deals with the various techniques for representing sound. The creation of this audio/visual source is called »Vector Synthesis«. It includes several physical practices. All objects can be called up as a video with sound using a QR code. The respective object can be experienced by the visitor on a moving and sonic level.
  • [H3] “We need it raw“When my homie Sirius Mo played me his new album earlier this year, I was honestly blown away – especially by the quality of the arrangements and sound design. When we got to the track “In der Klemme”, we both felt something and immediately talked about creating a music video using my vector graphics.
  • [H3] Back home, I started sketching out ideas and decided to focus on Synthshape motifs. For the display, I used a large analogue Telonic XY monitor. I set up an Ableton project, generated MIDI tracks from the song, and used them to animate the Pure Data Synthshape patch. A huge part of the process was fine-tuning every parameter with precision.
  • [H3] I animated the piece section by section until the entire track could be played back with its visuals in real time. Additional motifs were created as well, but didn’t make it into the final cut. Editing and post-production were done by Rolf Brämer.
  • [H3] Here are some stills from the video. Available as prints in my shop!
  • [H3] First of all, I have to get something off my chest. Lars is a friend of mine, and without him and his brother Gunnar I would still be stumbling around in the dark musically today.Back when I was in my punk/death-metal prime, those two musical twins were already living and breathing electronic music. And I’m not talking about Marusha or Mark Oh.
  • [H3] Long story short: A DJ friend gave me a mixtape. I was supposed to pass it on to someone from my school. It was lying around at home, and one evening I thought, “Alright, let’s give it a listen.” I definitely did not like techno. The charts were full of terrible techno, and because of that I kept my distance. Unaware that—just like in every genre—there’s good and bad music, I listened to side A of the tape and… WHAT IS THIS?I had never heard anything like it. Basic Channel – Quadrant Dub, the full version! I was blown away. To this day it’s one of my absolute favorite records. This Mixtape was created by Lars and Gunnar!
  • [H3] But what does that have to do with the video? Actually, nothing—I just wanted to shed some light on our background.
  • [H3] All the more reason why I was excited to make a video for and with Lars. We occasionally have studio sessions where we play each other our latest tracks. Lars showed up with “Dark Woods,” and the mood of the tracks grabbed me instantly. I asked him if he needed a video for it. And that’s how we ended up meeting for a Vector Synth session.
  • [H3] I prepared an abstract audio-reactive graphic, but Lars also had specific ideas. We went back and forth for a while about the colors, but of course we eventually found a style we both liked. Filmed off the Telonic monitor, the workflow was similar to my other videos: from Ableton I send MIDI data to Pure Data. In PD I created the graphic. PD sends the sound to the XY monitor, which displays the graphic on the CRT. In post-production I used Mad Mapper to give the video an extra dimension (in red).
  • [H3] One day, I received a message on Instagram asking whether I could create a music video. I only discovered it by chance, buried in a spam folder for quite some time. Still, I decided to respond and give it a chance.
  • [H3] The message came from Simon White – guitarist, producer, and an incredibly kind person. As we started talking, it became clear very quickly that we shared a similar artistic approach. Simon was looking for someone to create a lyric video for his debut release. When I learned that one of my favourite drummers was deeply involved in the project, I was instantly motivated to contribute. I was also impressed by Simon’s understanding of vector synthesis. He knew exactly what he wanted, and ideas began forming immediately.
  • [H3] I started by animating the typography in OsciStudio. From there, I developed several visual counterparts to build a coherent arrangement of imagery. Using the Max/MSP patch Rewerehere, I animated a head singing the lyrics, and I created additional abstract graphics in Pure Data. Out of this pool of elements, I composed the visual structure around the text.
  • [H3] For the final rendering, I used a Vectrex – a modified analogue game console from the 1980s. Its exceptionally sharp resolution and distinctive white–blue phosphor gave the visuals a unique character. After filming the animations directly from the screen, I moved into post-production.
  • [H3] Looking back, this project became an intense creative exchange: ideas, technology, experimentation, and refinement. A random Instagram message grew into a precise and inspiring collaboration between music and visuals – one that expanded my artistic practice and challenged me in the best possible way.

  • [H3] Review: Group Exhibition at Kunstraum – An Immersive Journey through Art and Sound
  • [H3] On September 21, 2024, Kunstraum opened its doors for a remarkable group exhibition curated by Sascha Bachmann. Artists Theresa Lambrecht, Helvi Reichert, Erick Wegener, GogoPlata, Michael Rayss and Bachmann himself presented their works in a spacious, carefully arranged gallery. Each piece was given enough room to breathe, and despite the diversity of artistic styles, the exhibition came together harmoniously, a testament to the Artist’s skill.
  • [H3] The vernissage attracted a relaxed and well-attended crowd. The laid-back vibe of the evening created a welcoming atmosphere where visitors took their time to meet new people, engage in conversations, and reflect on the displayed works. It felt as though time stood still as attendees became immersed in the fascinating worlds of the artworks.
  • [H3] A standout highlight of the evening was Sascha Bachmann’s performance, closely tied to his work HEARWHATYOUSEE. A mesmerizing display of light, video, and laser, accompanied by his own musical composition, transported the audience into a visual and auditory realm, perfectly rounding off the night. The performance left a lasting impression, adding another sensory layer to the exhibition.
  • [H3] The exhibition runs until October 5, 2024, and is open on weekends. It is highly recommended—not just for art enthusiasts, but for anyone looking to dive into an atmospheric and diverse world of art.
  • [H3] EXHIBITION 21.09 – 05.10.2024
  • [H3] I am delighted to present to you “Six Visions”, which brings together over 30 works by 6 Berlin artists. The media used range from wood, acrylic, canvas and paper to a live audio/visual performance. But the common feature of the selected works is the breadth and diversity of contemporary art forms. In particular, as the title of the exhibition suggests, the visions in the contrast between the artists within the composition space are of particular importance.Address: Kunstraum, Potsdamer Strasse 63, 10785 BlnDate: 21.09-05.10.24Artists:Michael RayssHelvi RichertGogo_plataTheresa LambrechtErick WegenerHEARWHATYOUSEE The rooms of the Kunstraum Digital offer a unique environment for works of art like these, which – similar to the conditions under which these works were created – require careful attention.
